Farmhouse with a big porch and a lot of land. Neighbors who will bring their kids over on summer nights and play board games and banjos and harmonicas. Lots of sweet tea. Everyone running around barefoot. Fireflies. Quilts. A big kitchen. Chickens in the yard. Lots of baseball games. Room mother at my kids’ school. Vegetable and flower gardens. Going to church, but finding God in nature and showing Him through kindness. Playing records and dancing in the living room. A big old claw foot tub under a window for bubble baths. Fresh flowers everywhere. Being pretty self-sufficient and self-sustaining. A library in my house. Chalkboard paint in the playroom. Mismatched dishes and chairs at the table. A couple novels to my name. Sitting on the front steps watching my husband play catch with our kids. Meaning something to someone. Taking care of people. Being the house that all our kids’ friends want to come to. Aging gracefully—doing everything gracefully.
