I would really appreciate advice on this:
I’m getting a roommate (assuming she approves of the room) on Friday. She’s coming from Michigan (I think?) to find a job in RVA and is looking for a short-term lease. We’re doing month-to-month, so if she finds another place or I decide I really do prefer my space, we’ll be able to part ways pretty easily.
You need a lot of money up front to buy a house. Even with the seller paying part of my closing costs I am still worried about where I’m going to come up with the rest of the money. Part of me thinks “That doesn’t bode well,” but another part of me knows that’s it’s not common to need three grand. But the fact that I don’t have an emergency fund, and I’ve just been charging Sassy’s vet visits to my credit card is worrisome.
I’ve spent the past week very uptight and I always feel on the verge of a panic attack. Luckily (?) two big things happen Monday: I have my home inspection, and my first round of paperwork is due to my mortgage agent (who I think is terrible). So keep your fingers crossed for me.
My biffle has set her wedding date, and it’s about 4 months sooner than what I thought it would be. May 4, 2013. It seems far away, but I bet the time will fly.
She has informally asked me to be a bridesmaid, and I gleefully accepted. But that means a couple things: first, I need save up some cash money for all that stuff, and second, I need to lose some weight so I can look fly standing up there by her side. (I look pretty fly anyway, but I’d feel better if I had toned arms and was a few sizes smaller.)
SO, my goals (add ‘em to the list) are to save $750 and lose 60 pounds by her wedding. That’s $57 and 5 pounds a month. Totally doable, right? I’ll get started as soon as I eat all the Easter dinner leftovers my mom sent back with me…
Two months ago I posted these goals, and since I’ve made a little headway on one item I am just gonna keep them as my resolutions.

But also: no shopping anyplace other than Goodwill/thrift unless it’s for something specific I need (and even then I have to look at GW first). Get down to 10 pairs of shoes (rain gear and flip flops don’t count). Get down to 25 books & 25 DVDs. (Those last couple items need to be done by March, when I move). Get my eyes checked again, to update both glasses and contact lens prescriptions. Make 3 new friends in Richmond (or actively hang out with people here instead of just internetting/meeting up every couple months). Cook at least 3 meals a week at home (and eat those leftovers at least 2 nights).
Does anyone want to buy everything I own from me?
Sassy’s got a third vet appointment on Monday. Thus far I have spent $233 on visits, tests, and antibiotics. Monday’s appointment looks like another $125 minimum ($243 if she gets heartworm tests and drugs), plus $150 to $180 each for a urine culture or x-ray if the antibiotics haven’t worked. I don’t think they have.
If I’d had her on heartworm meds this whole time—I think she’s been off for like 3 years)—it would have cost about $300, so that’s okay. It’s just tough to pay it all at once.
Her fifth birthday is Sunday. She has brought unending joy to my life, and this is why I have an emergency fund (which has basically been depleted), but goddamn. I have to laugh about it so I don’t cry.

Feel free to remind me of these things over the next five years. I need some direction.
Should I go to the US Open since I’ll be in NY anyway that weekend, or just go to FreeFest since that’s closer to home and, you know, free?
