Let’s say you bought the pictured shower curtain, along with turquoise and orange towels. Would you buy the rest of your bathroom accessories (ie bath mat, trash can, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser) in brown or green? Keep in mind that you already have a green tray that would match the other accessories, but no real place to put it.
I feel like brown would be a little more grounding, instead of walking into this rainbow room…but green would keep the room airier or something. IDK.

Sooo basically between the appraisal saying it’s a declining neighborhood and the fact that Sassy had $2000 in vet bills last month, my loan was declined. My agent is connecting me with another lender but it looks like I might not be a homeowner after all.

I’m frustrated but also a little relieved? I think the fact that I could go either way is a bad sign? I don’t know what to think.

I need a place to keep track of what room is what in the new house:

Living room: Maps, globes, books, records, armchair. Earth tones.

“Dining” room: Loveseat, TV and accouterments, dvds, computer stuff/office. More earth tones.

Kitchen: kitchen. Plus bistro dining table, eventually. Yellow and green.

My bedroom: bed, two dressers, night stand/shoe holder, Brown, turquoise, gold.

Second bedroom: cargo bed w/ trundle, red quilt. Red, brown, gold.

Upstairs: storage for now (or rental space?). Currently brown and white.

Full bath: Theme is whatever’s on clearance at Target or Ross.

Half bath: dragonfly bath stuff, eventual washer and dryer behind eventual accordion doors. Turquoise, blue, white, green, gold.

Mud room: also potential for w/d, storage, Sassy room?

You need a lot of money up front to buy a house. Even with the seller paying part of my closing costs I am still worried about where I’m going to come up with the rest of the money. Part of me thinks “That doesn’t bode well,” but another part of me knows that’s it’s not common to need three grand. But the fact that I don’t have an emergency fund, and I’ve just been charging Sassy’s vet visits to my credit card is worrisome.

I’ve spent the past week very uptight and I always feel on the verge of a panic attack. Luckily (?) two big things happen Monday: I have my home inspection, and my first round of paperwork is due to my mortgage agent (who I think is terrible). So keep your fingers crossed for me.

Been waitin’ for this picture to show up online.

I’ve signed a contract on a house. I offered $15,000 less than the listing price, and they countered a few thousand dollars, and I accepted. A few thousand dollars, I say it like it’s nothing.

My parents are basically giving me a whole bunch of money to make this work, and I’ll someday hopefully pay them back. Or at least take over my student loan payments. (Yes, I know I’m really blessed.)

I spent the last week moving out of my apartment, into a rental house with my roommate of 2 years—my brother said he wouldn’t help me move again unless I promised to get rid of my loveseat and recliner, so I guess my first task will be to find some replacements (or at least some slipcovers). I also plan on culling my possessions again before I move, stuff I didn’t have time to get rid of before my lease ended. I’m not SUPER stoked about moving again so soon, but I am excited to be moving forward with my life. And if I get a roommate that will basically cover my mortgage (so now I need to convince my little brother to move to Richmond so I don’t have to get to know someone new), although I can handle it on my own (obviously).

Thankfully my second job starts next week, and I can subsist on ramen for a while. I will be attending every lecture-with-free-food I can find for the rest of the semester (only 3 weeks). I don’t want to go overboard buying things to fill up spaces I’ve never had before, but I know there will be some immediate needs when I move in—window treatments and a lawn mower, deadbolts and rugs. I’m so excited, I just hope it all comes together in the end.

I’m 0 for 2 on houses. I just don’t think my budget is big enough for a decent house (ie, not falling apart or in need of major cosmetic upgrades) in a decent neighborhood (ie, close to work, safe). I think I’m going to branch out and start looking in my second choice of neighborhoods, which is south of the river but still close to things. It does mean I’d probably have to pay a toll every day, depending on which route I took to work, but I think I’d like living there.

I don’t remember if I’ve said this here before, but I’m also considering holding off for 6 months or so, and subletting or overstaying my welcome with Megan and Justin or something. I’d be able to pay off another couple thousand dollars worth of debt, and hopefully save that much as well towards a down payment. This would obviously put me in a better situation both as far as my loan terms and just the houses I could afford. I hate the thought of moving twice, but I guess it’s preferable to buying a house just to have a place to live.

Anyway, I am just hoping something awesome comes up this week and I can make an offer and close by the last week of March or something, and all my problems will be solved.

Mortgage agent is sending some paperwork my way this morning. Could this actually be happening?!
